The cousins' meeting, who are rarely spotted together in public, sparked rumours in some places about Varun Gandhi's political future.

Digital Desk: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his cousin Varun Gandhi, an Uttar Pradesh BJP MP, had a brief meeting on Tuesday at the Kedarnath temple where both had gone to offer prayers, according to reports.

The cousins' meeting, who are rarely spotted together in public, sparked rumours in some places about Varun Gandhi's political future.

In recent months, Varun Gandhi, the son of Sanjay and Maneka Gandhi, has not been seen at important BJP meetings. His remarks on important subjects, including the now-repealed agricultural regulations, have occasionally been at variance with the party's stand.

The Gandhis met briefly outside the revered temple and shook hands, according to sources who spoke to PTI. They said the meeting was "very short" and "warm one".

They stated that Rahul Gandhi was "very happy" to see Varun's daughter and that despite their lack of interaction, the two cousins had "good and civil" relations.

Furthermore, according to the sources, the meeting did not include any political topics.

When asked if Varun Gandhi would be welcome in the Congress during a news conference last year, Rahul Gandhi said that while everyone was welcome, Varun had "adopted the ideology of the BJP/RSS," which the Congress was opposing.

Varun Gandhi and his family visited the Lord Shiva temple on Tuesday, while Rahul Gandhi has spent the previous three days in Kedarnath in Uttarakhand.
