Digital Desk: Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the government to arrange for a discussion on the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) issue in the Lok Sabha scheduled for Wednesday.
Gandhi highlighted that the Opposition's previous requests to deliberate on NEET were turned down in both Houses of Parliament on June 28 and more recently on Monday. He mentioned that the Lok Sabha Speaker had assured the opposition of discussing the matter with the government.
"I am writing to propose a debate in Parliament on NEET," Gandhi stated in his letter to the prime minister on Tuesday. "Our intention is to engage constructively in order to find a resolution. Currently, our primary concern is the well-being of nearly 24 lakh NEET aspirants nationwide."
"The NEET examination demands immediate attention due to its revelation of significant flaws in our higher education system. Over the past seven years, there have been more than 70 instances of paper leaks, impacting over 2 crore students," added the Congress leader.
"Our students deserve explanations. A parliamentary discussion is the initial step toward rebuilding and reinstating their trust," he emphasized.
"In view of the urgency of the issue, I urge the government to facilitate a debate in the House tomorrow. I believe it would be appropriate for you to lead this discussion in the best interest of the students," Gandhi concluded.
