Digital Desk: A horrific incident took place on Tuesday night in Baregaon Nagabasti, under the jurisdiction of Sapekhati Police Station in Charaideo district.
As per reports, Mahavir Singh, a resident of Kalana village in Rajasthan, had entered into a second marriage with Bimala Chewak of Nagabasti. Bimala has a daughter, Richa Mishra, from her previous marriage.
After spending several months in Rajasthan, Mahavir returned to Nagabasti on February 3.
Upon his arrival, he discovered that his wife had had gone to visit a relative, which infuriated him.
In a violent outburst, Mahavir brutally attacked Richa, with a machete while she was asleep.
When Richa's aunt, Rina Chewak, tried to intervene, Mahavir attacked and injured her as well. Following the attack, Mahavir fled the scene.
Both victims, who sustained severe injuries, were rushed to the hospital late at night.
Due to the severity of their condition, they were later referred to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh for advanced treatment.
Meanwhile, the police arrived at the scene and have launched an investigation. However, Mahavir Singh remains at large.
