Digital Desk: The NIA court has convicted several individuals involved in supplying counterfeit currency from Assam to Visakhapatnam.
In 2025, the NIA apprehended seven individuals for distributing counterfeit currency worth several lakhs.
Following the arrests, the agency filed a chargesheet against the accused in the special court in Visakhapatnam.
On Tuesday, the special court announced its verdict, declaring all seven individuals guilty.
The court sentenced them to imprisonment terms ranging from 7 to 10 years for their roles in the counterfeit currency operation.
Among those convicted were Amirul Haque from Barpeta and Akbar Ali from Kamrup, who were caught by the NIA at Visakhapatnam railway station with counterfeit currency worth Rs 5 lakh.
Others arrested included Rustam and Mohammad Hakim from West Bengal, Saddam Hussain from Bangalore, and Syed Imran from Karnataka.
