New Delhi: Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait name has been nominated for the 21st Century Icon Awards, BKU leader said. The award will be announced on December 10 in London.

Tikait has been selected for this award for his mass involvement in running a long movement and keeping the movement alive.

According to reports of PTI, Tikait would not be going to receive the award as he is busy with the ongoing protest.

“I am not going to London to take the award because I am busy with the protest. Will accept the award when the government will fulfil all the farmer’s demand.”

The award was given annually by London-based Squared Watermelon company to the world’s personalities who set an example.

Rakesh Tikait was born on June 4 1969, in the Sisauli village of Muzaffarnagar district. He is the second son of Mahendra Singh Tikait. He has been recognized as a leader who is fighting for the interest of farmers in front of the government along with dharna and demonstrations. He currently heads the Bharatiya Kisan Union and is the organization’s national spokesperson.
