Parag's partnership with Bishal Roy added crucial runs for the fourth wicket contributing 58 runs...

Digital Desk: In a stunning display of cricketing prowess, Rajasthan Royals' Riyan Parag exhibited his exceptional skills for his state team, Assam, during their Ranji Trophy 2024 Elite Group B match against Chhattisgarh on Monday.

Leading the side, the 22-year-old delivered a captain's inning in the second inning, propelling Assam to a total of 254 runs.

Parag's batting masterclass saw him amass an impressive 155 runs in just 86 balls, scoring 11 fours and an astounding 12 sixes. His blazing performance marked the second-fastest century in the history of the Ranji Trophy, achieving the milestone in a mere 56 balls at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.

The fastest century record still rests with Rishabh Pant, who accomplished the feat in 48 balls during the 2016-17 season.

The former India U-19 cricketer's rapid-fire century played a pivotal role in saving Assam from a potential innings defeat, providing a target of 87 runs to defend on the final day.

Parag's partnership with Bishal Roy added crucial runs for the fourth wicket, contributing 58 runs. Despite being the ninth batter to depart, his innings propelled Assam to a total of 245 runs in 51.3 overs.

Parag's resilience turned the tide for Assam, which had faltered in the first inning, posting only 159 runs in response to Chhattisgarh's 327.

Now, with a challenging but achievable target in hand, Assam aims to secure all six points in their opening match of the season in Elite Group B, where they face formidable opponents like Mumbai, Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Bihar.

Riyan Parag's scintillating performance not only salvaged the match for Assam but also etched his name in the annals of Ranji Trophy history.
