The incident is captured on camera, although the person filming, his cousin Himanshu, appears unaware of Pawan’s intentions
Digital Desk: A 28-year-old property dealer, identified as Pawan Kumar, dies after accidentally shooting himself in the chest while filming a social media reel in New Ashok Nagar, police say on Tuesday.
Pawan Kumar, a resident of Dallupura village in East Delhi, is reportedly handling his cousin Himanshu’s licensed pistol for the first time at the time of the incident.
The case comes to light on 16th March after New Ashok Nagar Police Station receives information about a medico-legal case involving a gunshot injury from Dharamshila Hospital.
Upon reaching the hospital, police find Pawan admitted in an unconscious state with a gunshot wound on the left side of his chest. Doctors later declare him dead during treatment.
According to police, the incident is captured on camera, although the person filming, his cousin Himanshu, appears unaware of Pawan’s intentions. In the now-viral video, Pawan is seen inserting a magazine into the pistol and loading the weapon, while Himanshu advises him on handling the firearm and cautions him not to fire it.
Moments later, Pawan places the pistol against the left side of his chest, briefly looks at the camera, and pulls the trigger. He collapses immediately, as a shocked Himanshu is heard saying, “Ye kya kar diya tune (what have you done)?”
Police say the weapon, along with 10 live cartridges, has been seized. The mobile phone used to record the video has also been taken into custody, and relevant evidence has been collected from the scene.
The body has been shifted to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant provisions of the Arms Act at the New Ashok Nagar Police Station.
Further investigation is currently underway, police add.
