The Chief Executive officer of each of the three subsidiaries- Meghalaya Energy Power Transmission Corp Limited, Meghalaya Energy Power Distribution Corp Limited, and Meghalaya Energy Power Generation Corp Limited- shall also be the chief executive officer of those three parent companies.

Digital Desk: Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) and its subsidiary firms' general board structures would be reorganized, the Meghalaya cabinet determined on Monday.

The MeECL chairman and managing director positions would be held separately, the Cabinet agreed.

The government has decided that MeECL will have a managing director who works full-time. The full-time MD shall be chosen under a transparent selection procedure and may come from the IAS cadre or may be a lateral entry, a technocrat.

The power minister will serve as the non-executive chairman. The Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary incharge power, or Principal Secretary incharge power will be the three other subsidiary corporations.

Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister, claimed that this was essential since, for the previous 50 years, the MeECL was overseen by state government employees who were juggling several duties and couldn't devote the necessary time to running the company effectively.
