Digital Desk: To address the growing issue of drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol and engaging in reckless driving, particularly at night, the Ri-Bhoi police conducted a surprise inspection along the National Highway.
The operation was personally supervised by Senior Superintendent of Police, Ri-Bhoi, V.S. Rathore, accompanied by Addl. SP O. Massar, who is also in charge of the Traffic Branch, and Rubul Ali, Traffic In-Charge of the Nongpoh Branch, along with several other police personnel.
Police officials stated that the initiative was prompted by an increase in road accidents across major highways due to negligent and intoxicated drivers.
During the inspection, the police checked vehicles for unauthorized or high-beam lights, modified silencers contributing to noise pollution, and drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol.
Violators of traffic regulations were penalized on the spot as per legal provisions.
The Ri-Bhoi Police stated that such surprise inspections will continue to ensure road safety and to curb accidents caused by irresponsible driving.
As of the filling of this report, police have imposed a hefty fine of Rs 1.60 lakh.
