Digital Desk: The president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Bhupen Borah apologized on Tuesday for inciting a controversy by disrespecting the Mising community's traditional cloth.

The APCC President was at the centre of a major controversy on Sunday after it was claimed that he had disrespected the 'Ribi Gaseng,' a revered cloth of the Mising community of Assam.

Bhupen Bora in his apology said, “It is our duty to respect and honour the art, culture, customs, and traditions of all communities. I have no intentions to hurt the sentiments of the Mising people. I apologize for the mistake that I committed unknowingly.”


The incident occurred when Borah visited the home of a former village headman in Jonai's No-Pam, he stepped on the Ribi Gaseng.

After the incident came to light, a lot of people and groups within the Mising community demanded an apology.
