Mumbai: Fans were left disappointed after Rohit Sharma announced his injury right ahead the team was readying to depart for South Africa for the 3-match Test series. While Rohit will be fit to fly to South Africa for the ODI series, now Kohli has pulled himself out of the limited-overs assignment to spend some time with his family.

Conjecturing both star players staying out of the test–series, the dramatic turn of events has left the fans gobsmacked, with the chatter already making its way to the social media platforms of a “probable rift” between the two players.

Former India skipper Mohammad Azharuddin couldn’t keep himself from sharing his views on the matter.

Taking to Twitter, Azharuddin wrote: “Virat Kohli has informed that he’s not available for the ODI series & Rohit Sharma is unavailable for the upcoming tests. There is no harm in taking a break but the timing has to be better. This just substantiates speculation about the rift. Neither will be giving up the other form of cricket.”

In his tweet, Azharuddin mentioned that though the cricketers are supposed to take breaks, it is the timing of the announcement that comes into question here. Even Azhar admitted that the nature of the turn of events is bound to trigger the speculations of a rift between the two cricketers.

While social media has been full of rift rumours since the news of Kohli skipping the ODIs broke, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official urged fans to not read much into what is being said on social media, asserting that there's nothing wrong between Kohli and Rohit.

"Virat Kohli has informed us that he'll not be available for the ODI series. He wants to spend time with his family - don't read into social media rumours too much, there is nothing between Virat and Rohit", a BCCI official had told News9.
