Digital Desk: By the year 2024, India's road infrastructure will be similar to that of the United States, said Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, in a statement to the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

Up to 26 green express highways will be built before 2024, which will significantly reduce travel time.

Once the motorways are built, it will only take two hours to travel from Delhi to Dehradun, Delhi to Haridwar, and Delhi to Jaipur. Delhi to Chandigarh will be completed in 2.30 hours, Delhi to Amritsar in 4, and Delhi to Mumbai in 12.

The Minister was replying to Congress MP Rajeev Shukla's query during Question Hour on the fund availability of NHAI.   "26 green motorways are being built by the government. By 2024, India's road network will resemble that in the United States. There is a surplus of money. We are dedicated to transforming the nation's road infrastructure, "Gadkari said in response.

Regarding funding, he said that the NHAI could build five lakh crore worth of roads annually.

According to data provided by the government, 1,338 cases in Uttar Pradesh were registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) between the years 2018 and 2020, according to RLD's Jayant Chaudhary. However, only 83 of them experienced a conviction, representing a 6% conviction rate.

"This demonstrates that the legislation is being applied slightly incorrectly. How are you going to make the UP police more aware of the law? Chaudhary questioned Nityanand Rai, MoS for Housing.
