Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a significant milestone on Thursday as restoration work commenced on the roofing sheets of the historic Barpeta Satra, a revered site of cultural importance. This initiative marks the first replacement of the roofing sheets since 1962.

During his visit to Barpeta Satra, Chief Minister Sarma responded to the long-standing request for renovation, stating, "Barpeta Satra requested me to replace their roofing sheets, which had become old. As a representative of the Government of Assam, I approved an amount of Rs. 1 crore for the renovation of the roofing sheets at Barpeta Satra."

Expressing his delight at the project's readiness, Chief Minister Sarma noted, "Today while visiting the Satra, I was informed by the Deputy Commissioner that everything is ready and the work can commence now. The project is expected to be completed by August. This is indeed great news for us."

The Deputy Commissioner confirmed that all preparations for the renovation have been finalized, ensuring that the restoration work will proceed promptly. The entire project is scheduled for completion by the first week of September.

Chief Minister Sarma emphasized his personal commitment to the restoration, stating, "I feel deeply devoted and blessed to be involved in such meaningful work. This is the first time since 1962 that the roofing sheets are being replaced. The work is ready to begin now, and by the first week of September, it will be completed."
