Digital Desk: From Monday until February 19, the Udupi district administration has placed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in areas surrounding all high schools in the district. The decision is being made as a preventative measure, as schools will resume on Monday following the state government's declared holiday in response to the hijab-saffron shawl issue. Section 144 will be in effect from 6 AM on February 14 to 6 PM on February 19 at Udupi. The injunction prohibits gatherings of five or more people around the school's perimeter. Protests and rallies are among the types of gatherings that are prohibited. Provocative slogans, songs, and speeches are absolutely prohibited. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, speaking to reporters, said on Sunday, "High schools up to class 10 will reopen tomorrow, already Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of police and Deputy Director of Public Instruction of all districts have been asked to hold peace meetings involving parents and teachers at important schools aimed at maintaining cordial atmosphere. I'm confident that schools will function peacefully.". As protests in several regions of Karnataka became more violent, the administration declared a three-day holiday for all high schools and colleges in the state beginning February 9.
