Mumbai: A group of Shiv Sena workers despoiled a signboard with 'Adani Airport' written on it near the statue Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, close to the Mumbai International Airport on Monday afternoon.

A group of Sena workers led by Sanjay Kadam alleged Adani Company's unilateral move to "abruptly change" the name of the Mumbai Airport and replace it with the Adani Group brand name.

The Adani Airports Holding Limited under the chairmanship of Adani Group announced the acquisition of the Mumbai International Airport from the GVK group. The transaction gives Adanis a 74 percent stake in the Mumbai International Airport Limited.

"The AAHL has only been permitted to manage the Mumbai Airpot, and it cannot make any changes to the name. This is an insult to the people of Maharashtra and will not tolerate this," a Sainik at the disruption site on Monday told the Free Press Journal.

However, a spokesperson of the Adani Airport Holdings Limited clarified that “no change” has been made to the airport’s branding or renaming at the terminal.
