Digital Desk: A shocking child abuse incident was reported in Assam’s Silchar as a mother of a 1 year-8-month-old toddler forced her child to drink and smoke in a rented house where they resided.

As per reports, the incident took place in the Chengkuri area of Silchar on Wednesday night.

After receiving a complaint with photos from the scene, the Child Helpline Cell and the police raided the home, rescued the child, and took the mother into custody for interrogation.

While talking to reporters, Child Helpline officials said, “We received a complaint that an infant was being abused by her mother, following which we informed the police and the Child Protection Officer and rescued the child.”

The District Child Helpline Unit’s Supervisor Debashish Dey stated, “This is a shocking incident and We have kept both the mother and child in a shelter home as legal procedures are to follow the mother might get arrested today after an FIR is filed.”
