Digital Desk: Tamil-Telugu actor Siddharth was chastised on Twitter over a tweet for criticizing badminton player Saina Nehwal on Monday. Earlier, Saina tweeted about the security threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Punjab.

She tweeted, "No Nation can claim itself to be safe if the security of its own PM gets compromised. I condemn, in the strongest words possible, the cowardly attack on PM Modi by anarchists (sic)."

Reacting to her post, Siddhartha retweeted and wrote, "Subtle cock champion of the world…Thank God we have protectors of India. Shame on you #Rihanna (sic)."

Soon after the tweet, many internet users and celebrities chastised him for his "crass" language. But, the Tamil-Telugu actor defending his tweet wrote, "COCK & BULL' That's the reference. Reading otherwise is unfair and leading! Nothing disrespectful was intended, said or insinuated. Period (sic)."

Meanwhile, National Commission for Women condemning the tweet wrote to Maharashtra's Director General of Police and to Twitter to block the Twitter handle of the actor for the tweet on Saina Nehwal.

"@NCWIndia has taken cognisance. Chairperson @sharmarekha has written to @DGPMaharashtra for investigating & registering FIR in the matter. NCW has also written to @TwitterIndia for blocking the actor's account & to take appropriate action against him for posting such remarks," the commission shared on Twitter.

Meanwhile, slamming Siddhartha, one netizen wrote, "U have lost respect man. It was disrespectful."

"At least have the ball to own it up instead of twisting your own words, Siddharth!" wrote another.

Sania reacting to the tweet, told India Today, "I'm not sure what he was trying to say... I admired him as an actor, but this was not a nice one. He should use better terms to explain himself, but I guess it's Twitter, and you get noticed with such words and comments. If the security of India's Prime Minister is a concern, I'm not sure what else is safe in the country."

On his work front, Siddharth is known for his work in Tamil and Telugu films, but he has also appeared in Hindi films such as 'Rang De Basanti.' The actor was last seen in 'Maha Samudram' directed by Ajay Bhupathi.
