Digital Desk: After nearly three months of intense anticipation, the people of Assam may finally get closer to answers surrounding the mysterious death of singer Zubeen Garg. The Special Investigation Team, is set to file a comprehensive charge sheet in the high-profile murder case today before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup (Metro).

The chargesheet is expected to be extensive, comprising nearly 3,500 pages and containing around 35,000 documents, along with testimonies from over 200 witnesses. Sources indicate that the document will detail every crucial aspect of the investigation, laying out the sequence of events that led to the beloved artist’s death.

So far, seven people have been arrested in connection with the case. Among them, Shyamkanu Mahanta and manager Siddhartha Sharma are currently lodged in the Baksa district jail. Also held in Baksa are Zubeen’s suspended bodyguards—Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya, and also  suspended DSP Sandipan Garg, a close relative of the singer.

Two others, musician Shekharjyoti Goswami and fellow artist Amritprabha Mahanta, are been held in the Haflong sub-jail in the hilly district of Dima Hasao.

Across Assam, emotions continue to run high as the demand for justice grows louder, with social media flooded by the movement #JusticeForZubeenGarg. The singer’s family, along with supporters from every corner of the state, have been waiting anxiously for the filing of the chargesheet, hoping it will finally shed light on the questions that have haunted them since his death.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently acknowledged the completion of the police investigation, stating that “from today, the court will take over,” urging the public to place their faith in the judicial process.

As the chargesheet is submitted today, the entire state watches closely, hoping this marks the beginning of justice for Zubeen Garg.
