Digital Desk: Black smoke is currently emanating from Oil & Natural Gas Company's (ONGC) Rig No. RDS 147, located in the Bhatiapar-Barichuk area of Sivasagar.
Concerns have arisen over a possible crude oil leakage following a reported gas leak at the site.
The sight of the black smoke has caused panic among locals, who have raised complaints of damage to agriculture and livestock in the area.
The situation caused widespread distress among residents.
Authorities have so far refrained from issuing any statements regarding the matter.
Since last Thursday, ONGC's Regional Crisis Management team has struggled to control the natural gas leak at the Bhatiapar-Barichuk area.
The gas leakage at ONGC's Rig No. RDS 147 has persisted for five consecutive days, with efforts to contain it proving unsuccessful so far.
