New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi has decided not to celebrate her birthday this year. This news came as a sign of tribute and respect after a tragic helicopter crash led to the death of General Bipin Rawat, his wife, and 11 other Armed Force personnel.

AICC general secretary K C Venugopal announced the party chief's decision on Twitter and urged party workers to avoid any celebrations.

"Hon'ble Congress President has decided not to celebrate her birthday, tomorrow December 9. Urging party workers and supporters to avoid any celebrations strictly," Venugopal stated.

Also, Congress member Sabha Manickam Tagore tweeted, "Another example from Congress president about her sensitivity. Regarding CDS Bipin Rawat, Congress party decided to cancel celebrations."

Sonia Gandhi has turned 75 today. However, this year she has chosen not the celebrate her birthday.
