New Delhi: The mortal remains of Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika will be performed in Delhi on Friday. On Thursday evening, the bodies will be brought to Delhi in a military plane.

People would be permitted to pay last respects from 11 am to 2 pm. A funeral procession will begin from Kamraj Marg to Brar Square crematorium in Delhi Cantonment.

In a tragic helicopter crash on Wednesday, CDS General Rawat, his wife and 11 Armed Forces personnel were also killed in the mishap. Rawat was traveling to the Defence Staff College in Wellington from the Indian Air Force base in Sulur near Coimbatore when the Mi-17V5 helicopter of the Indian Air Force crashed near Coonoor.

Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed the demise of Rawat, his wife and 11 others in the tragic chopper crash. IAF tweeted, "With deep regret, it has now been ascertained that Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs. Madhulika Rawat and 11 other persons on board have died in the unfortunate accident."

The IAF conveyed a Court of Inquiry has been ordered into the accident concerning a Mi-17VH helicopter that took off from the Sulur IAF Station in nearby Coimbatore.
