  • Headmasters from Sonitpur district's Barchala and Dekiajuli constituencies have collectively called for significant improvements in vernacular medium government schools, including infrastructure upgrades and filling teacher vacancies

Headmasters representing high and higher secondary schools across the Barchala and Dekiajuli constituencies in Assam's Sonitpur district have collectively urged the state government to prioritize the enhancement of academic environments in vernacular medium government schools. Their key demands include a comprehensive upgrade of school infrastructure and the immediate filling of numerous vacant teaching positions in Assamese and Bodo medium institutions.

These resolutions emerged from a consensus meeting held on Thursday at the Jugal Higher Secondary School, located under the SDC, Tezpur, within the same district. The gathering brought together school leaders concerned about the state of education and the resources available to government-run institutions.

A significant point of discussion and resolution was the appeal to the Education Department to ensure all vacant teacher posts are adequately filled before any proposed school mergers are implemented. Furthermore, the headmasters advocated for the upgrading of existing intermediate teacher posts to graduate-level positions, aiming to improve teaching quality and career progression within the education system.

The initiative underscores a growing concern among educators regarding the resources available to government-run vernacular medium institutions, highlighting the critical need for timely governmental intervention to bolster educational standards and provide a conducive learning environment in the region.
