Chennai: Rising tomato prices have shown the redness in our pockets. People are doing away with their favourite dishes due to skyrocketing prices. Here is one hotel owner who is bringing in some cheers with his attractive offer.

Ambur Biryani, a small biryani shop at Sothupakkam, is giving a special offer to its customers.

The owner, Gnanavel, announced that a customer can either trade 1 kg of tomatoes for 1 kg biryani or can get ½ kg tomatoes free while buying 1kg biryani.

Gnanavel while speaking to a national daily said, “We decided to announce such an offer after tomato prices went considerably high. 350 customers bought 1 kg biryani and happily took the free tomatoes with them while only 3 or 4 customers brought in tomatoes to trade for biryani.”

To tide through the crisis, State-owned farm fresh retail shops are selling tomatoes for Rs 80.

Half kilo biryani at Gnanavel’s shop costs Rs 80 while a kilogram of tomato in Chennai costs Rs 140.
