Digital Desk: Veteran Assamese actor Nipon Goswami passes away today at 9:15 in the morning at Nemcare Hospital.  He was 80. 

Nipon Goswami was born on 3 September 1942 at Kolibari in Tezpur, Assam. An alumnus of the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), he was one of the most prominent actors in the state and and has numerous contributions to the Assamese film and Television industry.

In 1957, the actor made his Assamese film debut as a child artist in the film Piyali Phukan, directed by Phani Sarma. Sangram, his first Assamese film as a lead actor, was a box office success. His next film, Dr. Bezbaruah, which was released in 1969, established him as a star, and he went on to appear in numerous films over the next few years. He also appeared as a character actor in a few Hindi films.

He had been active in mobile theatres such as Abaahan, Kohinoor, Hengul, and Shakuntala. He also appeared in a few TV shows, including 'Writu aahe writu jaai.'

As per reports, the veteran actor was suffering from heart related ailments for a while. However, after his condition deteriorated suddenly, he was rushed to the hospital.

The cremation will be held tomorrow at 11am.
