According to allegations, when Anand Prakash Tiwari and Khagendra Nath Chetia served as managing directors, around 2,274 people were hired without following the proper procedure.

Digital Desk: The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) is currently in a state of chaos after 771 illegally hired workers were fired from their positions. The chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, stated on Wednesday that those responsible for the candidates' illegal recruitment would face strict punishment.

Speaking to the media in Guwahati, CM Sarma said, "We will cancel any illegal appointments, whether they were made by a minister or an officer. The deserving applicants are being treated very unfairly by this. Additionally, we will take harsh action against any officers who were found to have appointed these candidates in violation of the law."

According to allegations, when Anand Prakash Tiwari and Khagendra Nath Chetia served as managing directors, around 2,274 people were hired without following the proper procedure.

"The entire 2274 staff were recruited without following the due procedure or following the system of reservation nor any interviews were held. The same is to be enquired into and if found to be true, Show Cause notice to be issued to the then MD, ASTC for flouting the government norms and initiate Departmental Proceeding against such government,” a notification reads.

The chief minister announced that whenever the Assam state government announces the recruitment notification for around 22,776 openings in various ministries in the state in July, all qualified applicants who had previously been illegally appointed in the ASTC can reapply for the same positions.
