Digital Desk: Surbala Laishram Devi, a budding mixed martial arts (MMA) lady champion from Manipur, made history by being the first Indian fighter to win a gold medal at the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA )world championship 2021 in Amsterdam. Surbala, a resident of Khangabok Sorok Wangma Part -1 in Thoubal district, won the 115 LBS Striking MMA finals by defeating Tomiris Zhussupova of Kazakhstan. It was her first match since a long layoff in 2019 due to a knee ailment. https://twitter.com/lockerroom_in/status/1508049710963052545 Meanwhile, due to an injury, Asian Tournament gold medalist Dinesh Naorem could not compete in the semi-finals and had to settle for a bronze medal at the world championship. From March 23 to 27, 33 fighters from India competed in the five-day mixed martial arts world championship. At the world championship, India won a total of 11 medals.
