South Africa defeats India out of the ICC Women's World Cup 2022 as Deepti Sharma delivers a no-ball.
Digital Desk: In the hard-fought match against South Africa at the Hagley Oval on Sunday, India's women's cricket team was eliminated from the ICC Women's World Cup 2022. The game came down to the final, with intense scenes unfolding in the last over.
Deepti Sharma, the all-rounder, was given the duty of defending seven runs in the final over. She delivered a brilliant throw at the non-end strikers to run out South Africa wicketkeeper Trisha Chetty.
Mignon du Preez, who made a valiant fifty, legged out to Harmanpreet at long-on with three required off the final two deliveries, and India celebrated the wicket.
With du Preez's dismissal, the contest appeared to be all but over. However, the third umpire check revealed that Deepti had overstepped during her delivery, and the South African hitter went on to smash the winning runs on the last ball of the match.
India failed to qualify to the semi-finals of the ICC Women's World Cup 2022 after placing sixth in the league stage, one point behind West Indies. India needed to win the match to advance to the knockout stage.

As a result of India's elimination, Mithali Raj's final game in the Indian jersey on the international scene, Mithali had scored 68 off 84 balls earlier in the match to help India reach 274/7 in the first innings. During her remarkable innings, the Indian legend smashed eight boundaries while batting at a strike rate of 80.95.
Mithali, who is in her sixth World Cup, became the oldest Indian player to score a fifty-plus score in a match at the age of 39 years and 114 days. Smriti Mandhana (71) and Shafali Verma (53) set the tone with a 91-run stand before the latter was run out.
India also lost to New Zealand, England, and Australia in the main event but triumphed over Pakistan, the West Indies, and Bangladesh.
