Public executions in sports stadiums were common during the Taliban's first rule from 1996 to 2001. 

Digital Desk: The Taliban government executed four men in Afghanistan in front of thousands of spectators, marking the highest number of executions in a single day since the Taliban's comeback to the throne in 2021. The executions were held in three different provinces of Afghanistan. 

In Qala-i-Naw, two of the four men were executed by the Taliban government. Spectators who witnessed the act said that the men were instructed to sit by turning their backs to people, and relatives of them stood behind and shot them with a gun. 

Third and fourth men were executed in Zaranji and Farah city respectively, according to the Supreme Court. 

Public executions in sports stadiums were common during the Taliban's first rule from 1996 to 2001. 

The last public execution before this year's took place in November 2024. During that execution, one man was shot three times by a member of the family in front of thousands at a stadium in Gardez, Afghanistan.
