Dhaka: Bangladesh Opener Tamim Iqbal has withdrawn himself from the upcoming Cricket T20 World Cup which will be played in UAE and Oman.

''As I did not play in the last 15 to 20 T20 matches, and whoever replaced me, I don't think it would be fair on them if I take their place," he said through a video message.

Tamam was not included in the squad in the Test series against Sri Lanka in April-May due to injury, and he also missed the T20I series against Zimbabwe and the home series against Australia.
Tamim called the board president Nazmul Hasan and chief selector Minjahul Abedin and informed them that he might not be available for the World Cup match.

Tamim has played 64 Tests, 2019 ODIs, and 78 T20Is for the Bangladesh Cricket Team.
