A student of Tezpur University in Assam was apprehended on Wednesday (October 27) for allegedly raping a female classmate on the University campus.

The university have received a complaint of sexual harassment and have ordered an investigation into the concern.

However, the accused asserted that he was not guilty. A case under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was lodged at Tezpur Police Station on Tuesday. The accused was produced before a court in Sonitpur district, which has directed him to 14 days of judicial custody on Thursday.

As per the FIR, the alleged incident of sexual assault and harassment took place on three days (October 13, 15 and 16).

Reportedly, the court found a prima facie case against the accused and sent him to judiciary custody.
