Digital Desk: A daring daylight theft in Barpeta has sparked concern among residents, after a motorcycle was stolen from a busy area in full public view.The incident took place near the Ram Mandir, in front of Parijat Restaurant, where a thief stole a Discover 100 motorcycle bearing registration number AS 15 E 7733 in broad daylight.
As per reports, the owner, identified as local shopkeeper Dhrubajit Das, had parked his motorcycle in front of the restaurant after arriving from home, as part of his daily routine. Within moments, a thief seized the opportunity and fled with the vehicle, crossing the Maranadi bridge.
CCTV footage captured both the theft and the dramatic sequence of the owner chasing the acused. However, the thief managed to escape at high speed.
The victim further stated that this was not an isolated incident. Just two days earlier, another motorcycle was reportedly stolen from the town. On the same day as this incident, a battery from an e-rickshaw was also stolen.
The series of thefts has created panic and heightened tension across the town, raising concerns over public safety and security.
