Digital Desk: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has informed that the individuals who disrupted his meeting and incited violence at the CMO office in Tura on July 24 were not members of the NGOs with whom he was meeting, and instead belonged to other organizations or political parties.

Sangma stated, “The members who were standing outside were not part of the organization that had come to meet me. That’s when we figured out that there was something more complicated than what initially was though. Seemed that the people were not part of the movement and strike that was going on for the past few weeks."

According to reports, there used to be no more than 10 to 15 persons on strike each day, but the Chief Minister said that the crowd at the meeting was far larger than expected.

“I want to be very clear on my stand, anybody who will be arrested, picked up, or any case that will be filed will be purely based on evidence. What happened was not correct, and we had gone with a positive intention to listen to the concerns of the people,” CM  said.

According to CM, all statements made following the incident showed that there were organizations, groups, and persons who were not involved with the gathering, indicating that many of the perpetrators of the violence were members of specific political parties.

CM stated, “Despite the link, we are not going by political parties or we are not saying that these are the political parties behind the attack, but everything we do will be based on evidence."
