The Indian IT ministry had already threatened Twitter with legal action if it disobeyed some orders.

Digital Desk: Twitter, a major social media platform, announced on Tuesday that it is requesting a judicial review of the situation in an effort to resist instructions from the Indian government to remove content. The attempt is a part of a wider spat over content regulation between Twitter and the government.

According to a source familiar with the situation who spoke to news agency Reuters, Twitter claims official misuse of authority in the ongoing legal dispute.

The Indian IT ministry had already threatened Twitter with legal action if it disobeyed some orders.

Since last year, Indian authorities have asked Twitter to take action on content, including accounts that call for an independent Sikh state and a large number of tweets that criticise how the government is handling the COVID pandemic.

However, when contacted for comment regarding Twitter's legal action on Tuesday, the Union IT ministry did not answer right away.
