Based on a staff memo obtained by the media, Twitter will email its employees on Friday morning to let them know if they laid off.

Digital Desk: Following a notice given to staff, Twitter will notify employees through email on Friday morning if they will be laid off, according to CNN.

"In an effort to place Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the unpleasant process of decreasing our global staff on Friday," the email reads.

This comes just a week after billionaire Elon Musk took over Twitter, and it confirms multiple allegations that the microblogging platform's new owner was preparing huge layoffs in order to save costs.

While the email does not specify how many people will be laid off, Musk is likely to lay off about half of Twitter's 7,500-person workforce.

Employees will be notified via email by 9 a.m. (local time) on November 4 confirming whether they have been let go or not, according to the corporate memo. All offices will also be temporarily shuttered, and employee badge access will be suspended.

This is being done to "assist in ensuring the safety of each employee, as well as Twitter systems and client data."

Musk's announcement of layoffs concludes a week of purges in which he sought major cost cuts and imposed a rigorous new work ethic across the social media giant.

Tesla's CEO has previously fired the company's chief executive, as well as key finance and legal officers. Others, including those in charge of the company's advertising, marketing, and human resources units, have left in the last week.
