Digital Desk: An Army personnel allegedly shot dead two of his colleagues at Mirthal cantonment in Punjab’s Pathankot district on Monday, reports said.

The 22-year-old sepoy is believed to have fired on two havildars from West Bengal and Maharashtra in the wee hours of Monday.

The four-year Army veteran sepoy fled the scene leaving his duty weapon, but was later arrested. Authorities are trying to ascertain what caused the firing.

In a police complaint, a Naik-rank Army official claimed that while they were asleep, they heard gunshots.
The injured were rushed to a hospital in Pathankot, where doctors confirmed them dead, and he and his colleagues immediately informed their seniors about the incident.
 
 Notably, the police officials informed that they initiated a search operation and Army personnel, and the accused was nabbed a few kilometres from the cantonment.
 
Meanwhile, a case of murder under relevant sections of the IPC and the Arms Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
