Digital Desk: A woman from Dibrugarh University was detained on Sunday by members of the Indian Army and the Dibrugarh Police for allegedly having suspicious links with the outlawed armed insurgent group, United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I).

According to reports, the woman was picked up from Ranggarh Auditorium inside the university premises.

Additionally, the police seized cash of Rs 3 lakh from her possession.

The accused have been identified as Pushpanjali Gogoi, a resident of the Laipuli area in Tinsukia district of Assam.

According to reports, the woman was working in MI Lifestyle, a marketing company.

However, neither the police nor the security services have made any details public.

On the other hand, the detainee hasn't admitted to her alleged affiliations with the banned faction.

Earlier on Saturday, ULFA-I stated in a press statement that miscreants who demanded money in the name of the organization be identified by the public and punished severely because they did not belong to the outfit and had misled the public.

Captain Rumel Axom (undersigned), a member of the ULFA-I's media department, said, "ULFA-I wants to clarify through this release that confessions made by a vicious circle who are accused of demanding huge sums of money from various organizations, traders, and contractors in Kakopathar by using the name of the ULFA-I and who has also recently been arrested by the police, do not belong to the outfit."

The press release further reads, "Therefore, I implore the people of Assam to identify the individual who collects money in the name of the organization, without giving in to such false accusations and to administer severe punishment in the people's court.”
