The United Liberation Front of Asom [Independent] (ULFA-I) has written an open letter...

Digital Desk: The United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) has written an open letter to the pro-Khalistani organization "Sikhs For Justice" after it issued a threat to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. In the letter, ULFA-I expressed dissatisfaction with the alarm made by "Sikhs For Justice," saying it is regrettable and misinterpreted.

ULFA-I continued by saying that the Tholgiri people of Assam abstained from any verbal or physical abuse of Sikhs residing in Assam and the West-South-East Asia [WeSEA] region during the anti-Sikh wave that swept through India following "Operation Bluestar" in 1984. ULFA-I emphasized that there is no instance of a Sikh being killed or harassed during this time in Assam or WeSEA and that this is testimony to the traditions and generosity of the Tholgiri people of Assam.

The group also stressed that ruthless abuse of people had no place in society, citing the recent detention of eight members of the group "Khalistan and Waris Punjab De" in the Dibrugarh jail. ULFA-I claimed that they have not come across any news that goes against the traditions of the Assamese Tholgiri people and that they anticipate things to stay much as they were in 1984.

ULFA-I urged the leaders of "Sikhs for Justice" to abstain from making such derogatory statements and to remember the role of Assam's political leaders and people during the terrible situation of the past.

Notably, the letter comes amid increasing strife between "Sikhs For Justice" and the Assam government over the detention of the eight Khalistani activists.
