The Assam cancer care model has garnered attention for its comprehensive three-level approach...

Digital Desk: The Union Health Ministry has taken a proactive step in enhancing cancer care across India by supporting the adoption of the Assam model. In a recent directive, all States and Union Territories have been urged to implement this model, tailored to their specific needs.

The Assam cancer care model has garnered attention for its comprehensive three-level approach, addressing prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Recognizing its success, the Ministry aims to replicate its effectiveness nationwide.

Despite efforts under the 'Strengthening of Tertiary Care Cancer Facilities' Scheme, only a fraction of the proposed projects have been completed. Consequently, the focus now shifts towards completing existing initiatives rather than initiating new ones.

The decision, ratified during the Expenditure Finance Committee meeting, underscores the government's commitment to optimizing resources and ensuring timely project completion.

By encouraging states to adopt the Assam model, the Ministry acknowledges the pressing need for improved cancer care facilities nationwide. Each state is encouraged to adapt the model to suit its unique requirements while ensuring prompt action and reporting to the Ministry.

This initiative reflects a concerted effort towards standardizing and enhancing cancer care infrastructure, ultimately benefiting patients across the country. With collective action and adaptation, the Assam model has the potential to revolutionize cancer care delivery on a national scale.
