The Delhi High Court slammed the Uttar Pradesh police for arresting two persons in connection with a couple eloping and marrying against the family's will.

As per sources, a woman from UP eloped with a man from Delhi. UP police arrested the man's brother and his father from Delhi without notifying Delhi police.

The couple informed the court that they had married out of their own will on July 1, 2021. But, the woman's parents were against the marriage. The couple further claimed they were receiving threats after their marriage.

They also claimed that the UP police arrested the man's father and brother, who lived in Delhi. Notably, their whereabouts are missing for months now.

"This will not be permitted here in Delhi, and you cannot do illegal acts over here," Justice Mukta Gupta stated. The court also asked UP police if they had confirmed her age before taking such steps.

"Somebody comes to you, and you go to arrest people without confirming her age? Whether she is minor or a major?" Gupta asked UP police.

The court had ordered notice to Station house officer (SHO) PS Shamli to be present along with the case file. The high court slammed, stating, "UP me chalta hoga, yahan nahi," to UP police.

“Ye kaam na yahan Dilli mein nahi chalega. Illegal kaam koi bhi, ki aap aaye Dilli se log utha dein aur keh dein humne toh Shamli se uthaya tha aur arrest dikha dein. Ye hum na yahan nahi chalne denge,” stated the judge.

The court warned of action against the police. "I will get all the CCTV footage. So, If I find that if Shamli (UP) police came here in Delhi to arrest them, I'd make sure a departmental inquiry is made against you," said the judge.
