  • The Upper Assam District Association of the Deaf (UADAD) recently organised a significant flood relief drive in Sivasagar, demonstrating profound empathy for communities ravaged by the recent deluges

The recent devastating floods across Charaideo, Sivasagar, and Jorhat districts left a trail of destruction, impacting countless lives and livelihoods. Amidst the widespread devastation and the immense struggle faced by families to rebuild, a remarkable display of solidarity emerged from the hearing-impaired community, who mobilised a significant relief effort in Sivasagar.

Under the banner of the Upper Assam District Association of the Deaf (UADAD), members from various parts of Upper Assam, including Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Duliajan, Jorhat, and Majuli, pooled their resources. They meticulously gathered contributions from fellow members, well-wishers, and supporters across the region, transforming their profound empathy into concrete action.

This collective endeavour culminated in a flood relief distribution programme held recently in Sivasagar. Officials noted that while the deluges brought immense suffering, they also underscored the enduring spirit of humanity and the power of collective action. The UADAD's initiative particularly highlighted how compassion transcends all barriers, with the community demonstrating that they "listened with their hearts" to the plight of flood victims, despite their inability to hear their cries directly.

The association's swift response and dedicated efforts serve as a powerful testament to the resilience and unwavering compassion that shines brightest in times of adversity across Assam, inspiring others to contribute to ongoing recovery efforts.
