California: Rising tennis sensation Emma Raducanu crushed in her first match in the Indian Wells tennis tournament since her US Open feat earlier last month. The 18-year-old Raducanu is ranked 22 in the world according to the latest WTA singles rankings.

However, she was defeated by a much lower-ranked player from Belarus, Aliaksandra Sasnovich, on Friday, at the first round of Indian Wells. She faced a straight-set defeat with a scoreline of 6-2 6-4. The spirited show displayed by the young Brit sensation in the US Open was replaced by a flat and monotonous performance.

Reacting to the defeat, Raducanu said that she is only 18 and needs to ‘cut some slack. Besides, she also mentioned that she is new to the tour and lacks experience with night matches. Raducanu also said that she would like to take this defeat as a lesson and move forward and improve her experience in the future. Further, she also added that highs and lows are part of the sport. She also congratulated her opponent for playing a great match.

After 11 successive wins in her glorious US Open campaign, which made her the first British woman to win a grand slam since 1977, this is her first defeat in an international tournament. Besides, this was also her first math after she parted ways with her long-time coach Andrew Richardson.

Raducanu will now fly home with three more tournaments coming her way, starting in Moscow.
