Digital Desk: A Veteran Journalist Dhirendra Nath Chakraborty passes away at the age of 96 while undergoing treatment at GNRC Hospital. He breathes his last at 7:35 AM today after being under medical care for the past few days.
Chakraborty was a towering figure in Assamese journalism. He served as the editor of prominent newspapers such as ‘Ajir Batori’ and ‘Dainik Asom’. In 1991, he joined Ajir Batori as its editor and went on to edit several weekly publications, significantly shaping the media landscape of Assam.
At the time of his demise, he was serving as the Chief Editor of the weekly Pragjyotish. Over the course of his distinguished career, he also held the position of Director in the Public Relations Department.
In recognition of his immense contribution to journalism, he was honoured with the Republic Day Journalism Award in 2019.
Beyond journalism, Chakraborty played an active role in social and literary spheres. He was a former president of the Assam Senior Citizens’ Association and the founding president of the Kamrup Metropolitan District Sahitya Sabha.
His demise marks the end of an era in Assam’s journalistic and literary community, leaving behind a rich legacy of dedication and integrity.
