Digital Desk: Father of Veer Lachit Sena leader Shrinkhal Chaliha, Pranabjit Chaliha, alias Ramu Chaliha, a prominent nationalist leader, died today at The Assam Medical College. At the time of his death, he was 73 years old.


Pranabjit Chaliha has been in treatment for about a month. Chaliha was the Assam movement's most prominent leader. During the agitation, Pranabjit Chaliha was imprisoned 127 times. Later, he entered politics and ran for office three times from the Sivasagar constituency. 


Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his condolences on the death of veteran leader Pranabjit Chaliha alias Ramu on Wednesday.


According to a post on the chief minister's Himanta Biswa Sarma's official X handle, "The CM has expressed his deep condolences over the passing away of prominent social worker and leader of the Assam movement Pranabjit Chaliha. His death is a great loss to the social and political sphere of Assam. The Chief Minister extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the late Chaliha." (stated as per translation from X 'Twitter')
