Digital Desk: The Vijayapura district was hit by a 4.4 Richter scale earthquake early on Saturday, according to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center (KSNDMC).

According to a report, the earthquake occurred at 6:22:14 AM and had its epicenter "2.3 kms NW of Kannur GP, Vijayapura Taluk, Vijayapura district (Bordering Vijaypura and Maharashtra region)".

According to the seismic intensity map of the earthquake mentioned above from the epicenter, KSNDMC Director Manoj Rajan stated that the intensity recorded is moderate, and the tremor may be felt up to a radial radius of 30-40 km from the epicenter.

Although small vibrations may be felt, this type of earthquake won't cause any damage to the neighborhood because it's only mild in strength.

According to the tectonic map, the region lacks structural discontinuities, and the epicenter is located in Seismic Zone III. As a result, the community shouldn't be alarmed because the intensity is just moderate.
