Digital Desk: Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim's vote-counting dates were changed today by the Election Commission of India, one day after the schedule for the Lok Sabha and assembly polls was announced.
As previously indicated, June 2 rather than June 4 will see the vote tallying for the assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
The poll schedule for Assembly elections in four states was announced by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar. On May 13, assembly elections are scheduled in Andhra Pradesh; on April 19, elections in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. Between May 13 and May 20, Odisha will have four voting stages.
The electoral body stated that both legislative assemblies' terms would come to an end on June 2 and that, in accordance with Article 324, Article 172(1) of the Indian Constitution, and Section 15 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission of India (ECI) must hold the elections before the ends of the assemblies' respective terms.
The Commission additionally stated that the schedule for the parliamentary constituencies of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim will remain the same and that the date change is just for the assembly election vote counting.
The Election Commission of India said on Saturday that the seven phases of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will take place from April 19 to June 1. On June 4, the results will be announced.
