Sarma's campaign strategy and rhetoric are likely to shape the political landscape...

Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has intensified his campaign efforts in Dhubri, a Muslim-majority Lok Sabha constituency, ahead of the upcoming general elections. During his recent speeches in the region on Thursday, Sarma took a dig at All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) leader Badruddin Ajmal and the newly entered Congress candidate, Rakibul Hussain, employing colorful language to make his point.

Sarma humorously referred to Hussain as a "Chalani Fish" and likened voting for both Ajmal and Hussain to "expecting milk from a male cow." These remarks, made during public gatherings in Gauripur, Bilasipara, and Golakganj, underscored Sarma's confidence in the growing support for the BJP's ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), in areas traditionally dominated by AIUDF and Congress.

With Dhubri set to vote in the third phase of elections on May 7, the constituency has become a battleground for political parties. The contest, which includes 13 candidates and over 2.6 million voters, primarily revolves around Ajmal, Hussain, and AGP's Javed Islam.

Despite AIUDF's stronghold in Dhubri since 2009, Sarma's campaign rhetoric signals a concerted effort to disrupt this incumbency. His remarks about not seeking votes from certain communities have resonated throughout the region, indicating a shift in political dynamics.

In response, Congress candidate Hussain criticized Sarma, accusing him of opportunism and changing his stance based on electoral trends. Hussain suggested that Sarma's sudden focus on Dhubri stemmed from a realization of lacking support for the BJP among other communities.

As the electoral battle intensifies in Dhubri, Sarma's campaign strategy and rhetoric are likely to shape the political landscape leading up to the crucial voting day.
