Digital Desk: Here again back with their wit, Assam Police’s latest social media post is ruling the hearts of netizens, and all for the good reason. From an almost non-existent social media handles to going viral, the state police force has come a long way. The defined ‘makeover’ the state police has undergone, proves true with their smart and rib tickling social media posts-old, which are just bang on.

In a latest post shared by the Assam Police ahead of the New Year celebrations, and well, using ‘pun–intended’ in a responsible manner, Assam Police has warned rash drivers, drunk drivers and other eligible violators of be cautious of driving their vehicles on New Year’s Eve, violation of the rules which will attract heavy penalty along with a night in the lockup.

For the past few days, Assam Police has been conducting regular checks for drunken driving in Guwahati head of New Year celebrations.

Many driving licenses have been suspended along with Rs 10,000 fines imposed each under applicable penal provisions.

In its effort to intensify its campaign against overspeeding and drink-and-drive cases to prevent fatalities during the festive season, the Assam transport department has introduced a fleet of high-tech speed interceptor vehicles.

The traffic interceptor vehicles are equipped with the state-of-the-art automatic number plate recognition system, which will not only detect overspeeding, but also detect non-wearing of helmets, seatbelts, etc along with breath analysers to enforce against drunk driving.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, made it clear to the people that drivers won’t be allowed to drive vehicles under the influence of alcohol on the New Year’s Eve. Anyone found driving while in drunken state, or ferrying passengers while drunk, will be detained for the night and would be allowed to leave only next morning.

In all, the Assam Police social media post for the New Year’s Eve is hitting the bull’s eye. And we all think, this will surely go viral across the state and beyond.
