Landslides at Sonapur on the Badarpur Jowai national highway cut the Barak Valley from the rest of the country.


Digital Desk: On Wednesday morning, landslides at Sonapur on the Badarpur Jowai national highway cut the Barak Valley from the rest of the country. 


More landslides have been reported in the Ratacherra area of Assam and Meghalaya. Commuters have been requested to desist from travelling until the situation has returned to normal, according to East Jaintia Hill Police. 


Heavy rain fall throughout the day in Barak Valley on Wednesday. In the afternoon, the water level of the Barak river was increasing at an alarming rate of up to 25 centimetres per hour. Several areas of Silchar town were flooded. 


The Southern Parts of Assam faced the worst floods in the last two decades.
