WhatsApp has banned a staggering 47 lakh accounts in India during the month of March 2023...

Digital Desk: In a surprising revelation, WhatsApp has banned a staggering 47 lakh accounts in India during the month of March 2023. This is the highest ban reported by the messaging behemoth in a single month.

Proactive Bans and Grievances

Out of the total banned user accounts, 16.5 lahks were actively banned by WhatsApp's detection and prevention techniques prior to any user reports. The remaining 28.5 lakh accounts were closed based on complaints received from users in India via email or postal mail.

Indian accounts can be identified by phone numbers

An Indian account can be recognised by its +91 phone number, as per WhatsApp's monthly report. This means that if you use WhatsApp with an Indian phone number and violate its Terms of Service or Indian regulations, you could be next on the chopping block.

WhatsApp adheres with IT regulations

WhatsApp's actions are in conformity with Rules 4(1)(d) and 3A(7) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. The company has issued this report to provide transparency on the measures taken in reaction to the complaints received from users in India and the decisions received from the Grievance Appellate Committee.

"Among end-to-end encrypted messaging services, WhatsApp is a market leader in preventing abuse. To keep our customers safe on our platform, we have constantly made investments in processes, data scientists, specialists, and other cutting-edge technology over the years. In compliance with the IT Rules 2021, we have issued our report for the month of March 2023. This user-safety report contains information about user complaints and the steps taken by WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp's own preventive measures to counteract abuse on our network. Based on the most recent monthly report, WhatsApp banned more than 4.7 million accounts in March." In a statement, WhatsApp said.

Keep your WhatsApp account safe.

If you want to avoid being banned from WhatsApp, make sure you're not breaking its Terms of Service or Indian laws. Be cautious about what you post on the platform, as it can result in account suspension.
