Digital Desk: A woman was shot in the head by a police officer's pistol fired at close range inside a police station at Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh and is now in a critical state. The incident was caught on cameras, in which it looks like the police official misfired the gun.

Sub-inspector Manoj Sharma, the police officer, is seen cleaning his pistol in the CCTV cameras when a shot goes off and a woman standing at the counter falls.

The incident reportedly took place on Friday at approximately 2:50 pm when Ishrat, the victim, went to the police station to have her passport verified.

Police have not yet responded to reports that a dispute occurred over the demand for payment in order to verify a relative's passport.

The 55-year-old victim was shot in the back of her skull, and although she is recovering at JN Medical College, her condition is said to be critical.

The incident involving a police officer has been placed on suspension. Manoj Sharma was not involved in the victim's passport verification, according to a top officer.
